“Let the Fire Burn – A Documentary,”  by Zeitgeist Films, was winner of a Tribeca Film Festival award in 2013. It provides essential background material to the era of Mumia’s journalistic work and activism around the time of his arrest. Even though Mumia was on death row at the time of the 1985 MOVE bombing, before going to death row in 1982 Mumia was one of the only reporters in Philadelphia to report on the escalating harassment of MOVE by authorities. He also covered the 1978 shoot-out at the previous MOVE house in Powelton Village where one police officer was killed amid gunfire, overwhelmingly from police munitions, and where MOVE members, defenseless and with hands raised, were nevertheless brutally beaten.  Mumia was one of the only reporters in Philadelphia to report on MOVE’s grievances.
